Is it possible and safe to plug my xbox series s into my laptop?

Do you want to use your laptop as a display screen for the console?

This would only work on laptops with an HDMI Input port, it's very rare for a laptop to have one.

Since yours don't even have one, this will not work.

The vast majority of laptops do not have an HDMI input or a video input that goes directly to the screen.

See, the thing is, I don't have an option to do anything to it once I plug it into my laptop. I don't know how it could have possibly been reformatted. I plugged it into my laptop just now to try and reformat it per yours and MoeZArts suggestion
and the only option I'm given is one that allows me to "safely eject" the disk from my laptop. Plug it back into the xbox, press the option that's supposed to format for games & apps, it drops from the storage list, and I'm back at square one.

If the laptop had a built in tv card/tuner, then yes, as it then becomes like a tv and usually includes s-video and composite ports. mine used to plug into the composite ports on my tv tuner and this made it possible to play.

If your laptop has only one HDMI port it most certainly will only be HDMI out. Which means you can't use the laptop as a display. About 99% of laptops are HDMI out only.
