    Is it free to play Fortnite on Xbox one X or do I need to have Xbox Game Pass ultimate?


    I was playing Fortnite for Free on my Xbox one X for months. Then one day suddenly my Xbox wouldn't allow me to access the game without first purchasing an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate monthly package.

    But I have found out from other gamers that Fortnite is a FREE game and you can play it for FREE through a Playstation and Xbox.

    I am very confused and upset to find out I have spent a lot of money over the last two years just so I could access Fortnite through my Xbox. Is anyone else having this problem?

    Is this on a PC or on a console? On consoles, one needs to have a subscription to Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate in order to play online multiplayer. Only free-to-play games such as Fortnite do not have this requirement.

    Fortnite is free on Xbox.

    Unless you are referring to needing to have Xbox Live Gold in order to play it, which Gold does have a cost and is needed to play online multiplayer.

    There is currently a promotion going on for 1 month of Game Pass Ultimate for $1 which will grant you access to 100+ games for free including Fortnite!

    I have MW3 with all the content download however only Warzone works and the multiplayer / zombies are locked ? Any help with this

    Are you playing on a console? If you are, do you have a subscription to either Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate? You need one of those to play most online multiplayer games. Only Free-to-Play games such as Warzone, or Fortnite can be played without one.

    I gave my old xbox one to my friend and when we try to play online it asks him to download Game Pass Ultimate.

    Just to add some clarity to this...

    Any 'Free to play' game (e.g. Rocket Leage, Fortnite etc.) do not require the Xbox Gold subscription to play online. Games that are not free-to-play (i.e. Grounded) will require Xbox Live Gold to play online. Although you can play games with Game Pass, it does not make them free to play online.

    Your friend will either need to have Xbox Live Gold or convert his Game Pass subscription to Game Pass Ultimate, which includes both.

    free cloud play on Fortnite is now limited to one hour per day, if you wish more time you need to subscribe to game pass ultimate
