I have always preferred to install games to separate volume from Windows installation. In my case under Volume D: and I have always made a folder for the games to keep things neat and tidy and easy to manage. So all my games and game related services are installed under D:/games.

For the first time in my life I have encountered something that doesn't allow me to choose to install everything into specific directory that is the Xbox app. With Xbox app when I change the installation Volume from C: to D: it forces all the folders related to the Xbox app Into the ROOT DIRECTORY. It forces you to have several folders ("DeliveryOptimization" "WindowsApps" "ModifiableWindowsApps" "Program Files" etc) making the root directory cluttered and unorganized.

I got several months of Xbox game time for free, but since I can't choose to specify the folder under where everything is installed I'll never even consider reinstalling this. I hope you'll manage to make installation more user friendly because service itself it far from perfect with slow download speeds, downloads and game installation being buggy, unresponsive interface, default language used in windows changes the language used in the parts of the app but purchases and signing in process amongst few other things are still forced into the language of your geolocation forcing you to use VPN to receive the whole service in one language thats just few of the many issues I have encoutered.. So even a free price isn't necessarily enough to lure people into ever trying out the service.

    :)

Does this solve the problem? Is the installation process any different whether you do it through Microsoft Store or the Xbox app? Anwer is No, it works exactly the same way, you only get to choose the Drive and the software dumps everything to the Root Directory.

You don't actually need the Xbox app to install the games anyway. You can still download the games directly from the Microsoft Store. The app just makes it easier. You're not missing anything if you don't have the app. You will still be able to play the games.

it's Microsofts way or the highway unfortunately.

they use encrypted folders to store the games so you cannot access the files, unlike every other launcher where you can Microsoft chose this way.

you can select the drive and thats it i'm afraid.

does the same if you use the xbox app or the windows store.

I decided to ditch gamepass fully now and just use steam with ea play attached, even the epic store works better than Microsofts attempt. I was not getting the most out of gamepass anyway.

Ark still taking up 60gb+ of space after being uninstalled.

Hi, try restart Xbox or clear cache in your Xbox. Last thing is only factory reset.
The issue relates to PC not Xbox.

    To the OP:

As for the location, Windows Store and Gamepass titles install to a folder called 'WindowsApps' This is a hidden folder contained in C:\Program Files. On other drives it will be in the root directory.

You'll need to un-hide this folder and take ownership of it to see what's inside.

    External Hard Drive Update

They are in a hidden folder on the root directory of the hard drive.

There is a setting in windows explorer to show hidden files.

Although I can't be more specific than that because although I can see the folder and the files within the folder I have no idea if just copying the data0001 files there will make them usable by the xbox 360 as I don't understand the file/directory structure.
