Installing XBox Game Pass for PC (Beta) - no progress at all, it seems to fail at the start

I called Microsoft support. Their very helpful support expert resolved the problem for me.

I do not have complete documentation of what we did to resolve it.

I believe that we checked to see that I had Gaming Services.

Then we ran wsreset.exe.

You can search the internet for instructions for this. You may need to be in Administrator mode.

Then instead of using XBox Game Pass for PC (Beta), we installed XBox (Beta).

This worked.

The wording in the Flight Simulator announcement, as I read it, made me believe that I could start using Microsoft Flight Simulator now, using XBox Game Pass after loading XBox Game Pass for PC (Beta).

My understanding was not correct.

Once you get XBox Game Pass for PC (Beta) or XBox (Beta), which is the same thing, You will see that Microsoft Flight Simulator is available.

But, if you start to play it, it will state that you are too early. We have to wait for the release date of August 18, 2020, to play it.

I got it to install the first time but I couldn't install any games. Just said "Preparing" for an inordinate amount of time before failing with a random hex error code. Since then I've uninstalled everything and when I try again I get the symptoms described
above.

I think it's a UAC thing. The app is waiting for permission to continue but the UAC prompt never appears so the install fails. I tried installing Flight Simulator direct from the Microsoft Store and nothing happened, so I tried it on my laptop: UAC prompt
pops up, click "Yes" and away it goes. Installed just fine.

I don't want it on my laptop though, I want it on my main PC, but it's just not having it. I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows for the sake of a few games.

I have the exact same problem. I had the app working just fine for the first free month trial I had. Then since I've renewed, it won't install. I've read elsewhere that people resolved this through some serious work, reinstalling Windows etc. Would be
nice to not have to jump through hoops though. Where you at Microsoft Support?

I was able to contact Microsoft. They were busy but promised to call me back in 90 minutes, and they did.

The Microsoft Support person resolved the problem.
