My copy of Fable 2 is in VERY poor condition. I bought it preowned at Gamestop, and I've had it for several years. I decided that it would be a safe bet to install it onto my system, in case the disc were to become unreadable. Immediately after the install,
I took the disc out and tried to play the installed version. Unfortunately, I then received the message that I needed to have the disc inserted. I was under the impression that this feature allowed me to play my disc games without the need of a disc. Instead,
I just waste almost 7 GB of space with no change whatsoever. Is there any possible way to download Fable 2 onto my console, and play it without needing the disc? I really don't want to waste $15 on a new copy when my disc inevitably breaks.
I should be able to backup the game on my console! The disc was already in poor condition when i purchased it, and I don't want to lose access to a game I love playing very much. Thank you for your help, if provided

    :)

    Trouble Launching Installed Retail Games

For some reason lately, my retail games cannot be launched from My Games after I intall them onto my hard drive. This has happened with a couple of my games (Sonic and All-Star Racing Transformed and Gears of War: Judgement, specifically). I tried to install
Gears of War yesterday. Once the installation was 100% complete. I went into My Games and tried to launch the game with the game disc still in the tray, and I got a message to the tune of "Cannot Launch Application". Does anyone know what this could be?

The system needs the disc in order to verify that you own it. It just reads it for a few minutes but will stop and just play off of the installed file. This is to prevent people from buying one game and passing the disc around to everyone without them
    paying for it.

  5. Does it have to read the disc for a few minutes every time, or just once?

  6. That kind of defeats the purpose. If my disc breaks, it can't load for those first few minutes. It is nice to have MUCH shorter loading times, but its not worth using 7 gb of space. I guess i just have to shell out another $15 for a disc or $20 for download

This is to prevent piracy. Take care of your disc. There is a pretty obvious reason as to why you need the disc. There is little to no usage of the disc. All it does is read the boot file of the game; the rest is read off of your console's HDD. Your disc
isn't going to break magically. Wear and tear will be kept to a minimum. Your 360 will probably die before your discs ever stop working.

You still need to keep the disc in the disc drive as to ensure you own a copy of the disc, this is to prevent piracy through downloading the installed disc package.

Your console will only spin up your Fable II disc just to read and confirm it is authentic, then it will stop, and start reading from the installed data on the hardrive. Your disc shouldn't be damaged further from this process as it won't be put through
extensive use. If it receives further damage from other causes, it is likely that it will still work, personally, I have a wrecked copyCall of Duty: Modern Warfare which I'm still able to play, since it's installed on one of my harddrives.
