Installed language packs change the displayed language of certain apps away from the default

I recently installed the Japanese language pack so that I could type Japanese characters when I wanted/needed, as it is a language I am currently studying. However, I noticed that all the Windows and Xbox achievements in the (Win+G) popup as well as the Xbox app began to display in Japanese, with no way to turn it off apparently.

I uninstalled the language pack, and the achievements reverted to English, so I tried to reinstall the language pack, but turn off ALL optional extras, hoping this meant it only installed the keyboard (the only thing I'm interested in with my current skill level). The achievements again displayed in Japanese.

Everything else so far has still been in English, thankfully, but all other fixes I've found are all location-based (If device in Japan, things show as Japanese by default with no option otherwise) or "Reinstall your profile" which, frankly, is a stupid fix when the profile has been sitting here happy since I built the computer. As for location, it's a desktop, so in a fixed location.

In the language settings, all "Display Language" and "Preferred Language" options are set to English, and when I went into the Japanese language pack after installing the second time WITHOUT the optional extras, all those optional extras showed as installed anyway...

So, I might just have to type Japanese by finding a font, or copy-pasting characters one at a time until Windows allows us to actually control what language we want our information to display in.

    :)

Installed language packs change the displayed language of certain apps away from the default

Hello BradShadwick, my name is Vanessa, and I would be happy to help.

Surely frustrating, in theory the solution to the problem you are experiencing is quite simple. When installing a language pack in Windows, it changes the display language
of certain applications, but not the system in general. This means that even if you have the display language of your system configured to English, applications that use
the installed language pack will display their content in the language of the pack.

In your case, the Japanese language pack is changing the display language of Windows and Xbox apps. To fix this problem, you need to uninstall the Japanese language pack.
Once you have done this, all apps will return to displaying their content in the display language of your system, which in your case is English.

If you want to continue using the Japanese keyboard, you can install it separately. To do this, open the Settings app, go to "Time & Language" and then click "Languages". In the "Installed languages" section, click the "Manage languages" button. In the "Manage languages" window, click the Japanese language pack and then click the "Options" button. In the "Language options" window, uncheck the "Install keyboard" checkbox and then click the "OK" button.

Once you have done this, the Japanese keyboard will be installed without changing the display language of your system.

Here are the detailed steps on how to uninstall the Japanese language pack:

Steps on how to uninstall the Japanese language pack in Windows

    Open the Settings app.
    Go to "Time & Language".
    Click "Languages".
In the "Installed languages" section, click the Japanese language pack.
    Click the "Uninstall" button.
In the confirmation window, click "Uninstall".
If you are still having problems after uninstalling the Japanese language pack, you can try updating Windows to the latest version. Windows updates can sometimes fix language-
    related issues.

If you are unable to resolve your issue, please let me know so that I can research the issue. As far as I know, this is something that should be fixed by Windows itself, but if not, I will need to investigate. Good luck!

Certainly, I investigated to strengthen what I tell you, and part of the information

    Language settings

    Please try the following:

    Go to

Control Panel-> Clock, Language, and Region-> Language

    1. If the language is not in the list:

    a. Click “Add a Language”

    b. If the language has more than one dialect, double click to see dialects.

    c. Double click to add a language to the list.

    2. To set you display language:

    a. Click the language in the list that you want to be your primary display language

    b. Click “move up” to move it to the top of the list.

At this point you should be able to relaunch the app in the new display language

    · If the language was not installed before installing the app, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the app

    · Display language controls the display for many areas of Windows so when you log in again it will change the display language for all of Windows.

    · There is no way to change the display language of the game separately from the rest of Windows.

Let me know if you’re still having difficulty.

    Forza Hub showing Chinese!?

Just to finish this off. It is very easy to replicate. As soon as I installed the Chinese Simplified language pack, Forza Hub uses Chinese date formatting and displays the Games Descriptions and the bottom in Chinese again. And as soon as I remove the language
it is back to normal English.

Note that I just install the language pack for Chinese character input purposes, so I can switch between the default English input and Chinese Pinyin when needed for some Chinese typing, not for changing the actual display language of Windows! For the rest
this is a full English version of Windows 10 Pro Anniversary.

Region Settings Changed Without My Knowledge

    Hello!

Are you certain the region was change and not just the language? Check and see if you can change just the language by going to your "Settings" then under "System" and "Language & location" if it is a region that your console was switched to you would have
to wait until it allows you to switch it again.

    Hope this helps

    Language and location

The language and location settings allow you to change the language display information of your console. If you move to a different time zone or region, you should update your console settings here.

Is this happening with all your notifications or just with the Xbox App?

    Please, follow these steps:

    Select Start > Settings > Time & language > Language & region.

Choose a language from the Windows display language menu, or, next to Preferred Languages, select Add a language to install the one you want if it isn't listed.
