Installed game on the wrong Xbox

Hi there, recently I bought an Xbox Series S to replace my One S which I since restored factory settings on and gave to my nephew, so I assumed my account was no longer on it. Today, I bought a game through the Microsoft store on my phone and when it asked which console to install it on, I selected the One S by accident and so its been installed on my nephews xbox One S.

I ended up installing it on my own Xbox Series S later without any issues but I'm just wondering if this will cause any problems? and also, I'm confused as to how the game still managed to install on the One S after I restored factory settings on it. Lastly, if this doesn't cause any problems with it being installed on both consoles, is my nephew able to play the game as well now or does he lose access as soon as I've installed it on my own Xbox?

No it won't cause any problems. Even if you removed your account from the console, the device would still be connected to your account. You can remove it at http://account.microsoft.com under Devices.

If you still have the One S set as your Home console, your nephew would be able to play the game. If you don't have the One S set as your Home console, he won't be able to play the game.

So the Xbox folder was good enough for a time but not permanently. However, XboxGames is good permanently? I'll trust you on that even though it makes no sense. The old install folder that it was told to look for E:Xbox was still there since I was running games from it. It's just confusing since in 30 years of computer use I've never had a program ignore the folder that it was told to look for and show that folder as the default while defaulting to another location while the folder still exists.

But you are not going to be using his account, okay? You will just enter on his account to set it as " Home Xbox " and install the game on the console, so later you can enter on your account and play the game normally! That is what Home Xbox and game sharing is for.

That has fixed it for now. The problem is this. It had been installing to the E: drive but then stopped without changing the default in Settings. Is this guaranteed to not have the bug happen again? Will I need to make XboxGames1 if it happens again? If so I may end up with 5 or 6 install locations on one drive or need to move every single game every time the bug occurs. That will be frustrating as HELL.

Please, create a new folder called XboxGames on your E: drive and change the install location to it.
