Installation

Hi.

my son has the disc for battlefield 1, but when he put it into the Xbox, it then proceeded to download a massive 40 or so GB.....

Is this right? It's using up a lot of Xbox space (almost none left), why doesn't it just run from the disc? What is the point of buying the disk?

I'm probably asking a very silly question - I know nothing about the xbox

installation queued/stopped

It seems the the installation continually changes from queued, to installation, and eventually installation stopped. Where you have to resume installation, only to have it fail again.

Whats the deal?

nothing, 100% installation and nothing, installation stopped....

The 40+ Gb download is correct. On the Xbox One, every game is downloaded to the machine. I'm sure there are more reasons for this. But the first and most important reason is that "optical disc drives can’t read data quickly enough to keep up with modern
games, so you get the best gaming experience when you install the game from a disc on your Xbox One console." (Taken directly from: Installing Games on Xbox One )

And just so you know, the game is then reading from the hard drive, however the console will require the game disk to be in the machine as well for DRM (digital rights management) reasons to ensure a person actually owns the game. As for why disks are still
sold, I'm not exactly sure why, but I personally like owning the physical game disk. It is more tangible to me and when I'm done with it, I can sell it to someone else. I cannot sell the digital version, though.
