Installation permissions on one of my drives (Xbox App PC) 0x80070005

I recently reset windows, and when trying to to install a game to a drive that is not my windows installed drive I get an error message. The error code is 0x80070005 which after doing some digging seems to be permission based. How can I give myself permission to install on this drive? Other programs like steam etc install on this drive without issue.

    :)

    Xbox App does not work

Hi Flash, my issue is the 100% downloaded but error installing message 0x80070005. Installs work perfectly to system drive C, however error when installed on any other drive. Tried every solution online (re-installing everything except windows, xbox insider, win storage location default changes, time date location, adjusting permissions in system drive (noting permissions revert back on other 2 drives for /windowsapps folders), updates, deleting windowsapps and wpsystem folders, repairing and resetting, etc. etc.).

If i restart the computer and resume the download it will complete, which tells me it is a permission issue with the xbox pc app and drive. It's been going on for many months now and had enough lol

Hello, how are you? My name is Mateus. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

First, welcome to the Xbox community. I'm sorry you're having this problem.

Before we try any different solutions, please check that after reinstalling your windows all updates are installed, the latest system version is 21H1, if not up to date, please download the latest version via windows update.

*If windows are already up to date, please try the solution below.

Go to This PC, enter the disc where you want to install the games.

Rename the "WindowsApps" folder in "WindowsApps.old" then restart the pc.

If the error occurs again then rename the "WpSystem" folder in "WpSystem.old" and restart again.

*If after performing the workaround above, you get an error 0x80073d0d, read the thread below.

Error Code 0x80073CF9 when trying to install Halo Wars on PC

Go to settings>system>storage and click change where the new content is saved, change to the desired drive, save and return to the Microsoft Store app
Okay, I tried downloading it to 2 different usb drives and they both don't work. Got another error code when trying to do that (0x80070005), which basically is that I don't have permission. I have tried a lot of things to get me to have permission. This game installs fine on my dad's pc but for some reason won't work on mine. I am out of ideas to get this thing to install on my laptop.

    Hi,

Error 0x80070005 is an 'access denied' error code. It means that games and apps can't be installed due to file access restrictions.

Did you use D:\ drive on a previous PC or previous install of Windows 10?

Games and Apps on Windows 10 Store install to a folder called 'WindowsApps', if this folder already exists on your drive, you won't be able to install games.

    Error code 0x80070005

The 0x80070005 error is related to access permissions in Windows.

Are you logged into an Adminstrator account?

Also, are you trying to download your games on Xbox App? Can you try to download them on Microsoft Store to see if it works there?

Also, are you trying to download them on a fixed hard drive or an external hard drive? If you have 2 hard drivers (or one external hard drive, or even 2 partitions on the same hard drive), try to change the download/install location. I can give you a step by step for that if you have 2 partitions or one external HD.
