install physical Bayonetta 360 game on a Xbox 1 console

I have a physical Bayonetta 360 game I'm trying to install on to my Xbox 1 console, I keep getting a message to check whether the game is backwards compatible when I click on the install button. I know this game is backwards compatible. How can I download
the physical 360 game to my XB1 console?

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums for this issue. You are correct that Bayonetta is backwards compatible for play on the Xbox One according to the

Xbox One backward compatibility FAQ. You may wish to double check your physical disc to ensure that its clean and free of any fingerprints, dust or significant scratches as if the disc is dirty or damaged this could be causing the issue.

Another thing you can try is installing the disc to the console while it is in offline mode, then taking it back online to receive any necessary updates for game play. The full steps to this solution may be found in our support article entitled The
installation process stops at or near 0% when installing an Xbox One game from a disc (even though it says its for Xbox One games, its still applicable).

I don't know how this happened but years ago, I installed the physical disc for Bayonetta and now I have a digital download for it. A lot of my 360 games I can now play digitally as opposed to physically. Perhaps try install the game from the store or
look in your ready to install?

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

Hi Jesse. For instance I bought Bayonetta on 360 in 2011 or 12 digitally on Xbox Live. I got rid of my Xbox shortly after and hadn't owned an Xbox console until this month when buying the Series S. After downloading the 360 version of the game I went to launch and got this message:

"Do you own this game or app?"

"If you bought this online make sure you're signed in. If you don't have rights for playing it you'll need to get it at the Microsoft Store."

So many of my older games from the 360 era were physical copies. I'm sure I don't have a right to own the digital versions. But something like Bayonetta I owned digitally I'm pretty sure or I may of had another Xbox account with a different email when I purchased games digitally.
