    Will my Xbox Live account stay active if i don't play it for years or never again?

    Just the thought of all my Progress Achievement hunting over the years being deleted makes me sick..

    No,there isn't.

    Remember that accounts are used on other Microsoft services,not just xbox live,so just because a account may look inactive on xbox live it could be used somewhere else.

    As per the gamertag policies that were introduced in 2016 & 2019 the earliest any inactive accounts may be freed up is the end of August this year.

    As others have stated, gamertags get periodically released after they have been inactive for a while.

    Some accounts may apear as inactive in xbox live (may have no gamerscore for example) but are actually used for other purposes such as an email account.

    Once they are marked as expired, there is another waiting period to confirm they are inactive (the owner of the gamertag can re-activate the account to keep the tag if they want)

    I would say the best way to protect your account would be to use it as your main sign-in for Windows.

    Windows 10 and 11 will automatically sign in with your gamertag associated with your account. If you're already doing this then the account should remain active.
