I'm unable to play multiplayer games privately

I'm unable to play any game on split screen multiplayer using the same username. We used to be able to do it on the 360, 4x players would look like:

Username

Username (1)

Username (2)

Username (3)

This is the same if 4x of us want to join an online multiplayer session.

Am I missing something simple?

You have to.sign in on a guest account on the other controllers

Not all.games support it though

I can see that you are unable to play multiplayer games privately or on split screen using the same username. This sounds like a frustrating issue. To better assist you, I would like to ask you a few questions:

- What model of Xbox console are you using?

- What games are you trying to play in multiplayer mode?

- Do you have an active Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate subscription?

- Have you checked your network settings and NAT type?

- Have you tried signing out and signing back in with your username?

Once we receive your answers to the questions above, we may suggest additional troubleshooting measures.

And getting kicked from the party/privates does happen in-game. But only if I'm not playing multiplayer, if I sit in an empty lobby before starting up the joining process I still get kicked. But if I am in a multiplayer lobby or playing a multiplayer game
I never get kicked at all.

The same is happening with me too! I'm unable to play multiplayer as well.
