I'm trying to sign out of a Microsoft account and use a new one for my xbox account. However, I don't know where to start and I've heard that you really can't due to them being linked.

What can I do?

Your XBOX profile is actually part of your Microsoft account and I am afraid there is no way to separate them, in the same way you could would not be able to separate a Gmail account from the Google account it is associated with.

There is no way to change which XBOX profile is associated with a Microsoft account, I am afraid. Your only option is to create a new XBOX profile using a different email address, and that will have its own associated Microsoft account (or create a new Microsoft account using a new email address and then create a new XBOX profile using the same email address).

If you ensure that both the original and the new XBOX profiles are on your XBOX and that both are signed in at the same time whenever you use it, you will be able to play as your new XBOX profile whilst still having access to all the games purchased on your old profile.

I would like to let you know that your Xbox profile is permanently linked to your Microsoft account. Therefore, you can't link it to another profile.

Not only that, but it is important to mention that you can change the email address associated with your Microsoft account. However, you can't use an email that's already associated with a Microsoft account.

You will get an error if you try to do that.

Thanks for helping. My two Microsoft Accounts are gmail addresses that I've processed into WindowsLiveID for the original one, and the new Microsoft Account for the new one. The new one, for example, is enabling me to go into an inbox at Outlook, while the
old one, when I try to do so, tells me a problem occurred and to report it to Microsoft, which I did, but was inconsequential.

I'm just trying to change address for my Xbox Live account. That's my sole and only purpose.

No, the email address I want to use is the new one. I've already recovered my old account (this one) which is the one I want to keep, just attached to the new email address. I've created a new microsoft account and xbox account for the email I want to
use, but when I try to 'Change Microsoft Account' on my xbox it says the email doesn't have an xbox account. But I can use that email to log into the website and can use it on my xbox by downloading that profile.

so... email 1 is used for the "" account, and email 2 is newly set up with "Temporary Placeholder style name" account. I try to Change Microsoft account from email 1 to email 2, but it says there is no account on email 2.

The email on this account is only active temporarily and I am trying to change it to the new email so I do not loose my purchases.

When I try to buy something it comes up with my old billing address, even though I have changed my preferred address to the new NZ address in my Microsoft account. I can't change the address at that point due to the format being different.

I'm in NZ on a NZ laptop and the Xbox app shows the prices in UK pounds.

I have changed the setting in the Microsoft account and stated the NZ address to be the preferred one.
