    I’m experiencing awful headphone crackling, can anyone help me out?


    I’ve owned my series x for over 2 years and have never had any issues whatsoever. In the past month I’ve experienced awful crackling audio that is almost unbearable. The only thing that temporarily works is clearing the alternate MAC address, which makes absolutely no sense to me because it just resets the Xbox but resetting it normally doesn’t fix it. It happens on multiple controllers and headsets, so they aren’t the issue. I recently rearranged my room and had to use a power strip to power my Xbox. I tried plugging the Xbox into the outlet directly and it didn’t fix it. A lot of people online say that it’s been an issue for years and Microsoft just won’t fix it, I just don’t understand why I just started experiencing it. I have an Ethernet cable connected to my Xbox, so I guess I’ll switch to wireless and see if it fixes it. If that doesn’t work I just don’t know what to do. Has anyone else experienced this or can anyone help me out?

    I'm a member of the Xbox Community. I will be glad to help you.

    I personally have not suffered from this problem, but I could recommend a few things for you to try to verify if you can fix it.

    First make sure your controllers are updated from the "Xbox Accessories" app, if so, Try to perform a cache clear with the following steps.

    Remove your account from the console

    1. Press and hold the Power button on the front of your Xbox until the console turns off.

    2. Unplug the power cord from the back of your Xbox.

    3. Wait a minute, and then plug the power cord back in.

    4. Press the Power button on your Xbox to turn it back on.

    5. Your cache should be clear at this point.

    Log back in with the account.

    Also go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output.

    And there change the Audio format of the headphones. In advanced options check the "Mono output" checkbox and see if the same thing happens to you.

    Yeah; I’m pretty pissed about this. I’d just like to watch TV without the awful crackling in my ears. And without my controller shutting off every 15 mins. That PS5 is looking better and better…

    I reinstalled the driver but that didn’t help so I tested the headphones on another computer and they didn’t crackle on that computer. I never had this issue on my main pc with any headphones whether they are wired or wireless they didn’t crackle. The issue just started to happen only on that pc only when I have headphones connected through the wireless adapter.

    Now I have another problem, where my headphones suddenly cut out after lots of popping and crackling, and I have to disconnect and reconnect my headphones. This has happened before, but it is becoming more frequent. I removed all wireless devices such as
