If I factory reset by holding pair and power button to try to fix usb hdd recognition. Will i have to reinstall all my games

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you want to know what happens when you reset your Xbox to factory default.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

When you factory reset your Xbox you will get 2 options to choose from and these are:

    1. Reset and Remove Everything wherein it wipes all data completely, like doing a full factory reset.

    2. Reset and Keep My Games & Apps. This removes accounts and settings but retains installed games and apps to avoid having to redownload them. Therefore, you do not need to reinstall your games when you choose this option.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

When I press my buttons on the controller it does not respond How do I fix this?

Try resetting the controller, follow the below steps

    Hard Reset:
A hard reset is more thorough and can help if your controller is not responding as expected.

    Turn off your Xbox console.
If the controller is connected wirelessly, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller for about 10 seconds. The controller will power off.
If the controller is connected via USB, unplug the USB cable.
If your controller has a removable battery pack, take out the batteries.
Wait for a few seconds to ensure any residual power is drained.
Reinsert the batteries or plug in the USB cable.
    Turn on your Xbox console.
Press the Xbox button on the controller to turn it on. The controller should resync with the console.
    Factory Reset (Advanced):
A factory reset of a controller is rarely necessary and should be used as a last resort. This will erase all pairing and customization settings from the controller.

    Turn off your Xbox console.
If the controller is connected wirelessly, press and hold the Sync button on the controller (located next to the USB port).
While holding the Sync button, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller.
Continue holding both buttons for about 10 seconds.
    Release both buttons.
    Turn on your Xbox console.
Press the Xbox button on the controller to turn it on. The controller will be reset to its factory settings and will need to be paired with the console again

    Slow update

You can try to factory reset your console without using the USB flash drive:

    - Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

    - Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console (the Xbox Series S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition do not have Eject buttons. Just hold only the Pair button nd then pressing the Xbox button).

    - Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

    - The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. Select "Reset this Xbox" > Reset and keep games and apps.

See if this helps. If the issue persists, you would need to take the offline system update route.

    How to fix Xbox crashed

If a hard reset (holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds) doesn't improve the situation, turn the console off again by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Now hold Eject and Bind buttons and turn the console on. Keep holding down the Eject and Bind buttons, until the console boots to a recovery menu.

Try doing a factory reset keeping your games and apps.

After doing the factory reset, and the console still not working properly, try doing a

factory reset via USB drive as described here.

Sorry to hear it. Let's try forcing a reset on the console. If this does not work then you may need to set up a repair of the console.

Please try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down. Then unplug it for 30 seconds. Then hold the Sync button (left side near the USB port on the original Xbox One and just below the power button on
the S and X consoles) and the Eject button for the console then press the power button and hold until you hear a second start up noise.

If you are using the Xbox One All Digital console then you only need to hold the Sync button and then press the power button to reset.

You should now see a new screen. Scroll over to Restart/Reset and reset the console to factory settings. There is an option to keep installed games and apps so you won't need to redownload them.
