    IE - html 5 error - couldn't watch SOTU


    I don't have tv service, so last night I was going to watch the State of the Union address. I launched youtube via internet explorer but when I tried to watch SOTU it gave some kind of HTML 5 error.

    I had to watch it on my surface RT and stream it to xbox.

    [/quote]Because html5 can do the same as flash and doesn't use nearly the amount of resources that flash does. Flash was created in the 90s for Desktop PCs. It wasn't really designed for mobile use or laptop use. It also doesn't play well with Mac's OSX.
    It chews up a ton more of CPU than it should. Manufactures in the moblie market were noticing the resource hog and battery life issues that flash has caused. Hence the reason for the push to html5.

    What am I paying for in my yearly subscription

    Do you need Gold for the IE app? If not, couldn't they just go to the youtube website, and watch youtube that way?

    As far as I can tell, HTML 5 is becoming more and more commonplace throughout the internet. I expect websites that depend on flash will be making the switch to HTML 5 as we move forward. That's just how technology goes. In with the new, out with the old.
    HTML 5 seems to have been developed in response to the massive incompatibility of Flash with so many devices. Xbox is not trying to rescue Flash. It's moving forward with everyone else.

    Are you trying to goto a website with online video? If its not html 5 its unljkely you can load it

    IE is also ancient and outdated
