    Hello,

    I recently built a new computer on 06/30/2021, and I wanted to plug in my Xbox 360 wireless receiver into my new computer from my old one. When I plugged it in, I heard the device connection sound from my computer, but the light on the receiver isn't lighting up. The light on my adapter quickly flashed when I plugged it in but that was it, no light afterwards. I went into my Device Manager and found the Xbox 360 Peripherals and Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows tab. That's where I found the ️ icon on the controller icon. (Keep in mind, there is no Unknown drivers tab in Device Manager)

    Once I saw that icon, I knew something wasn't right. I clicked Update driver, clicked Search automatically for drivers, then it said The best drivers for your device are already installed. I knew that couldn't be right so I then clicked Search for updated drivers on Windows Update. There was nothing there to be installed.

    I then clicked Browse my computer for drivers. I searched for drivers everywhere in the Browse... section including subfolders, and all it said every time was The best drivers for your device are already installed. It gave me the option to Search for updated drivers on Windows Update again, but no luck there.

    After searching through Device Manager, I went into my Windows Settings and went into Devices. I went into Bluetooth & other devices and found my Wireless Receiver but right below it, it says Driver error. The only thing I can do from there is right click on it and click Remove device. Nothing to solve my problem.

    I've searched for articles, forums, etc., but I have found nothing at all on this problem I am facing. I went to the Microsoft support website and found that my Wireless Receiver has been discontinued and is no longer supported by Microsoft. I'm assuming I can't find software/drivers because of that. I must've found them on my old computer a couple years back before they were discontinued. I've owned this Wireless Receiver for maybe 4-5 years.

    Is there anything I can do at all? I'm running out of ideas and I'm afraid there is no solution.

    Connecting my Xbox 360 controller to Windows 8 laptop.

    For wireless Xbox 360 controllers, you cannot use the charging cable to connect to a PC (it only transfers power, not data). To use the controller with a PC, you will either need an "Xbox 360 controller for Windows" (non-detachable cable) or use your existing
    wireless controller with the wireless gaming receiver for Windows.

    Thanks for your post! To use an Xbox 360 controller on a Windows PC, you must use the

    Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver    . Since the Xbox 360 controller and Xbox One controller use different wireless technologies, the new receiver is not compatible with 360 controllers.

    Hi Katten,

    Thanks for coming to the forums. The wireless adapter is for Xbox one controllers. There is an

    Xbox wireless receiver     for Xbox 360 controllers. They also sell Xbox 360 controllers with Bluetooth capability for windows. The receiver you will have to search around for as they are hard to find.
