Discus and support I would really love some utilities to test and troubleshoot a headset and microphone in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; A friend and I have been playing multiplayer with Halo, Outriders, etc for the last few months, and when we started we had occasional play sessions...     I would really love some utilities to test and troubleshoot a headset and microphone


    A friend and I have been playing multiplayer with Halo, Outriders, etc for the last few months, and when we started we had occasional play sessions where we had zero voice chat functionality. Then about a month ago it stopped completely for both of us. I can't hear him, and he can't hear me and it is across various games. Halo MCC, Halo 5, Outriders, A way out in particular. We have ended up calling and using our phones on speaker mode which is not ideal to say the least.

    We both have looked at all the settings we can find on our respective consoles and haven't had any luck making it work again. It would be really helpful for things like this if there was a utility where I could test my microphone and stuff like that to help troubleshoot this. I highly doubt it's anything to do with my headset, but I did buy a real bargain headset, so I would like to be able to at least troubleshoot that.

    Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support! We understand that you are currently facing audio issues. But don't worry, please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

    Step 1: Check if your mic isn't muted:

    First make sure that your mic isn’t muted, then check in headset settings that Auto-mute is not set to High. If that doesn’t fix the problem, restart both devices, and check to see if a firmware update is available for your headset.

    Step 2 : Check your settings:

    1. Go to your privacy settings and allow communication with everyone. You can do so by tapping the Xbox button. Now, go to System > Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox Live privacy. Select View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer, and make the changes.
    2. Unmute or unblock those you are looking to chat with. Tap the Xbox button. In the guide, click on Multiplayer > Party. Tap on Party to open up the party roster, and select the people you want to unmute, and select Unmute.
    3. If your chat audio is not clear or a bit choppy, this could also be related to your Xbox One controller update. To fix this, both you and the friend will need to ensure that your controllers are up to date.
    4. You also need to make sure that you're not experiencing network latency or other network problems.

    We thank you for bringing this inquiry to our forums community, and understand that this concerns an inability for your son to utilize his headset with his controller on his Xbox One console.

    A line through the microphone indicates that the microphone is not being detected, or in some cases, that the headset is not being detected. To test this, you can try the headset with another controller if available, or you may also try a different headset
    with the same controller if available.

    This will more than likely deal with the audio jack at the bottom of the controller, and we recommend attempting to follow our
    Xbox One Chat Headset troubleshooting support article as it provides steps to assist with headset detection in general.

    Try this out for us and then let us know the results.

    Another issue I'm running into with the headset adapter + windows 10 streaming:

    I docked my surface pro 2 into the docking station, which has a wired PC microphone plugged in. When I start playing (Rainbow Six Siege), the game audio is coming through my headset adapter (via the Xbos Stereo Headset), but the Windows 10 Xbox app is utilizing
    my wired PC microphone instead of the Stereo Headset/Headset Adapter. I can't figure out a way to force the streaming app to use the microphone plugged into my controller...

    (not sure if I should document this issue in another thread)

    It seems there may be some minor issues between the Windows 10 Xbox streaming application when used with the Xbox Headset Adapter.
