I was banned from using the xbox app chat, and i'm not so sure why I have been.

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums with this situation. As the Ambassadors have previously stated, for any Enforcement action, you must go to through the
Enforcement website to resolve this.
If you were suspended for longer than a day you can also submit a case review from the same website. Side note: Enforcement does not Post, Read, or Comment on Forums nor can support offer assistance.

If you run into a toxic player then Report, Block and Ignore the user, and do not engage them.
(Enforcement does not see anyone as Defending themselves, they look towards the

Code of Conduct only.)

"Will I get banned just because I received complaints?

No. A common misconception is that a certain number of reports will result in an automatic suspension. According to the myth, even if you haven’t done anything wrong someone can get you suspended by encouraging
players to file many complaints. This is completely untrue.

XBLPET investigates complaints and takes each report into consideration when making an enforcement decision, but a certain volume or frequency of complaints doesn’t guarantee a suspension. We take an evidence-based
approach to enforcement and take numerous factors into account when considering issuing a suspension. The context around the content or activity is particularly essential and drives our decision-making process. Simply put, there is no magic formula that instantly
results in a suspension.

Despite what some may claim, XBLPET will never ever ban anyone “for no reason”. Suspensions always occur as a result of a specific Code of Conduct violation.

While some Code of Conduct violations are immediately resolved, XBLPET also conducts reactive investigations. Many of these investigations are triggered by player complaints. The Code of Conduct has no

If you were banned it was most likely because the enforcement team found that you violated Xbox's Terms of Service when it comes to communication.

The slightest bit of language or derogatory comments would have done it, just need to choose your words or tone carefully next time. Or better yet, water off a ducks back mate, walk away, ignore and block. We all know the rules and conditions when we signed
up. Those who think they're getting the last laugh in, are always the ones that are getting the ban. So many posts on here of people complaining about being banned, and they literally explain what they did/said, and it clearly shows why they were banned.

Well, it seems you have a hunch that a response you sent back was what might have gotten you banned.

If the other person threatened or harassed you, and you responded yourself with a message that would violate the Code of Conduct (CoC), the other person can report this message.

If a message gets reported, the message is being sent in with the report as evidence, and the Enforcement Team uses that evidence to determine if it violates the CoC or not.

If the reported message does not violate the CoC, nothing will happen. If however the message contains something that violates the CoC, a suspension is issued.

So, rest assured that the other person is NOT able to ban you themselves. They had reported your message, and the Enforcement Team found that the message violated the CoC and issued the suspension.
