  1. I Want To Use My External HDD On My Xbox One With My Windows PC However…

I am thinking of using my External HDD that is currently formatted for my Xbox One with my Windows PC. I know the steps of going on disk management and creating a new volume but I was also thinking of leaving my Xbox One games on the HDD whilst still being able to use my PC games and store new files etc. on the HDD. If possible I also want to know if I can download and install new Xbox One games on the HDD and still plug it back into my Windows PC with no issues and still continue normally

    :)

The hard drive is formatted differently on Xbox One, so cannot be used to store files from Windows. Your only option with the drive, is leave it formatted for Xbox or format it for Windows, and use it on there.

Media player not recognizing USB 3.0 hard drive after recent update

I have 2x Seagate 1TB Slim external HDDs (one for Xbox 1, the other to back up my videos and pictures on my PC). And my Xbox 1 recognizes BOTH. What sort of external HDD's are you using? People should stop bashing the new Windows 10 UI on Xbox 1. It's way
faster to navigate the Windows 10-like UI on Xbox 1 than that Windows 8 UI hunk which is considerably slower at loading stuff than the new UI which Xbox 1 has.

Xbox one stopped working after hard restart

I have found the cause of my problem and a solution. I went to package up the old Xbox and when i unplugged my external hard drive a miracle happened, she started working. When i plugged my external storage back in the screen went black. This all started
when the most recent update happened and i never put 2 and 2 together. So without wasting anymore time rambling, the fix is rather simple at the cost of losing all saved data. I plugged my HDD into my windows PC, proceeded to find the HDD in my devices. Note
that the HDD will not show up under my computer and can be a bit tricky to find. After this i proceeded to reformat the HDD to my PC, then reformatted it again on my Xbox. Now my Xbox is working again, sadly ill just have to reinstall everything. Hopefully
this helps someone, also sorry if my instructions on finding the HDD on your PC are lacking, i never kept track of the path i took to find it.

Slow starting to move games to external hdd

I had support chat with Xbone support team about external hdd issues such as moving certain content.

Certain content just would not install or move to the external hdd. My external hdd is Lacie Rugged Mini 2TB USB 3.0 (tested fine on both MACs and PCs) before formatting on Xbox One for Games and Apps.

Once a game or app does not install externally it would not move to the external hdd.

My 360 moves games or apps almost always successfully.

This externally hdd moving issues along with certain games and apps not installing on it is causing major headaches. I also already tested with another brand which as tested on both MACs and PCs fine but with Xbox One it is becoming an issue.

I believe it is a combination of digital rights management, account issue, along with Xbone system software.

Storage Alternatives for XBOX versus internal drive

In the past I've needed to reset my Xbox One to factory defaults for whatever odd reason (honestly can't remember), after which I started using a 2TB external HDD. This turned out to be a huge time saver when I switched over to the Xbox One X.

I noticed on my Xbox One that a lot of games actually start/load quicker when stored on an external HDD, this makes some degree of sense though, since the connection for USB was faster than it's connection for the internal drive. Xbox One X improved on that,
but I'm still partial to my external drive just because of it's portability.

The performance difference for Xbox One X, will most likely depend on the external disk you're willing to use. The large benefit being you're fully in control of what drive you use, including but not limited to SSD. However, in most cases, you'll be just
fine with any decent desktop external HDD.
