I want to play an X/S game but my friends have the old gen version can we play together or no?

Cross gen is when players can play, for example, on Xbox Series X/S with their friends on an older generation console, like Xbox One.

The issue here must be that your friend is playing the Xbox One version of the game and you are playing the Xbox Series X version, so you are not able to play together.

To play together, either you would need to download the Xbox One version of the game, or your friend would need to buy a Xbox Series X/S console, okay?

If you download both versions of fifa onto your console (series x version and Xbox one version) you can play with friends who have old gen and new gen

Smart delivery is the problem. Let Series X/S owners access Xbox One versions of games, so if a game like Dying Light 2 doesn't support cross gen play, we can still download a second version of the game and play with friends running the older version!

"Regardless of the launcher used on pc you will be put into pc lobbies and there is no crossplay.

There isn’t even crossplay between a new gen console and an old gen. This means someone on an xbox one can’t even play with someone playing the series x version of the game. The same is true with ps4/ps5 (note: they can play together if the new gen player downloads the lower quaility, last gen version).

If you want to play together you’ll either need to get an xbox or they’ll need to get a pc."

AFAIK, the only way that Xbox and PC players can play together is if one player has a Series X and the PC player plays the game via cloud gaming (using a Game Pass ultimate sub)
