I want to create a new account, but keep a Gamertag from an account I'm about to delete

My microsoft account has become so confusing with many different services, addresses, accounts etc. I want to purge it. I don't have an Xbox anymore, but just in case I want to play Xbox again in the future, I'd like to still have my gamertag.

If I pay to change my gamertag on my account that I will soon delete. Can use the "old" gamertag name in a new account?

WLID region is OK, Xbox GT is not.

Then how do I delete a gamertag/Xbox account... I can't create a new one since this one is linked to my WLID. I want to keep my WLID the same.

Want New Gamertag; Have Balance MS Points in Live ID. What Do I Do?

Hi,

I'm trying to do something that I thought should be relatively simple to do, but I'm not finding any answers.

Here's what I'm trying to achieve:

I have a gamertag that I no longer wish to use; I want to create a new one & use that. But I still have MS Points in my Microsoft Account. All I want to do is create a new Gamertag and be able to retain the MS Points that I have in my MS Account.

First I tried to find if I can delete/cancel existing Gamertag & create new one on same Windows Live ID. The answer I'm finding is NO.

Then I tried to find if I can create a new, second Gamertag in the same Windows Live ID. The answer I'm finding is NO.

Then I tried to find if I can create a new Windows Live ID & create a new Gamertag with, but transfer my MS Points to it. The answer I'm finding is NO.

I'm not sure if there's any other way; but if there is - I'd love to know about it.

Like I said, all I want is to have a new Gamertag (With or Without existing Windows Live ID) but salavge my existing 1650 MS Points still in associated with existing Live ID/Gamertag.

Hi there,

yes that should work, as long as no one will take your gamertag after you change it on the account and before you select it on the new account.

Some times, it may take a bit longer before it can be taken again and to be sure I do advise to not delete the account immediately after you changed the gamertag, but keep it active until the gamertag was taken by the new account.

Sadly you can't delete the Gamertag related to your MS account, you could either just delete the profile from your console and create new Gamertags for all, or keep that Gamertag and change it to something you would refer to be called, if it's the generic
GT that's auto created when you created the Xbox profile can change it free of charge. But whichever option you choose remember to create an email for each new GT.

Hi there,

a xbox live account can not be deleted from your Microsoft Account, you can only move it to another Microsoft Account (and if needed Close that Microsoft Account).

Unfortunately no, there is no way to delete a gamertag. You can however pay to change your gamertag or simply create a new account and disassociate yourself from the current one. To change your gamertag, follow the steps in

THIS guide.

If you instead choose to create a new account, be sure to remove any personal information from the account that you are wanting to leave behind, such as payment details.
