Its not because its taken your name is too long

Unless you are using a xbox 360 the limit is 11 not 13

You have 12 characters in your wanted name

And you cant see if they are using it for other purposes like office 365 etc

They are allowdd trailblayzer because it was pre new gamertag system

Since you are attempting to take the name in the new system you cannot

The change is to allow suffixes at the end of it

You can use it now, you'll just get a suffix added to it since someone else already has it.

Otherwise, if a person doesn't sign into their Xbox account for 5 years, their gamertag will be freed up. If they don't sign into their Microsoft account within 2 years, it'll close the account which should free up the tag. 2021 would be the earliest tags
are freed up based on when those policies went into place, but there is no guarantee that tag will be freed up at that time. Even if they're not using the Xbox, it's not possible to know if they have been signed into other Microsoft services.

Once you change your gamertag to one that includes # with numbers that just allows you to have the name you want. If someone already has the requested name then it can't he taken unless you include the # with numbers.

I wanted (my gamertag) but found that someone else had already taken it using all letters so I just changed some of the letters to numbers (like they do on car registration/license plates) and I was able to have the gamertag I wanted.
