I want the account name “Berm” but it’s already in use. The person with the name “Berm” has 0 gamerscore And has not been online in forever. I’ve had Xbox live for a good amount of time now and I want to switch my name

Account Change Question...

Yes, if he changes the original name to something else you can then claim that name. What i would do is have him change the name now (it's 10$) and right after he changes or shortly after he changes it, go claim your name again with a new email (he can't change email that i know of).

This will save your name, your achievements are tied to your old account though, all digital purchases and achievements are on that account. If you want to give him your xbox, just have him setup a new account. If it's he wants your digital games, you can game share later.

It sounds confusing but it's easy come back when you get your new xbox and we can set you up with that too.

Force gamertag change due to hate mail

He probably doesn't like the name he got when he made the account and does not want to part with any cash. or he has joined a clan and wants to change the name to match, seen it before a lot.

You'll have to wait until the owner either changes the name or if he doesn't sign in for 5 years (starting last year) it will be freed up. Keep in mind that the gamertag system is in use on other Microsoft services. So even if it's not in use on an Xbox,
it may be in use somewhere else.

He wants to create a new account with the same name? I don't think it would work, as the name would show as already in use. He can only create a similar one.

if he just did a gamertag change for 800ms points it doesn't affect the account other then the name all licenses will be still associated with the account

if he makes a new account but it was the purchasing console then he can use it on any profile he wants

XBL, Games for Windows Live and Zune all use the Gamer Tag feature. So if it isn't being used here it is possible it is being used on one of the other two services.
