I want a gamertag...

Because someone else is using it.

The system doesn't recognise spaces or capital letters so Gamertag would be the same as gamer tag & so on.

If it says it's unavailable then there's nothing you can do to get that tag.

Gamertags are also used on other services,not just xbox live.

If a gamertag is not used for 5 years then it's released so it's just a case of waiting to see if it ever gets released.

basiically when you search for someone you need to have the exact spelling spaces and caps

But when you try and name yourself you have to be unique so since it is taken you are going to have to be more creative with the spelling

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. If it is not letting you get the gamer tag. Then most likely it is in use. There are quite a few people that have a gamer tag but don't use it. But, they actively use their Microsoft account. If it is one
that is abandoned it takes 5 years for it to be released. You an try and change it

here as Golden mentioned. Important note if you do try and it is taken it will add a suffix of 4 numbers on the end. So please make sure you want this in case it happens before paying for the change.

That won't work as I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't own the Gamertag they are asking about.

If you don't own this Gamertag then there is nothing you can do to get the name. A Microsoft account must have zero activity for five years before it will 'drop off the system' so to speak. With users now able to sign to use their Gamertags on Windows
PCs too, it may be that the Gamertag could still be in use. We don't know and no one here will be able to tell you here for privacy reasons.

Just be aware that offers to buy the name from the user would be a violation of the Xbox Live ToS. (Just in case you were thinking of doing that)
