The Elite Controllers are pretty easy to work on. I just replaced a broken bumper on my Elite Series 1. It took about 20 minutes. You can find replacement parts on Amazon easily. Many companies have their own websites if you don't want to buy from Amazon.
There are plenty of videos on Youtube how to take apart and replace what is broken. I would recommend checking out the videos first to see if you want to give it try.

Did you try updating the firmware on ur controller? I had this happen to two of my xbox elite controllers aswell one of them was a wolferine elite, it wont update firmware on xbox, or pc. They were wired, and it was the wire inpluck that was broken. Hope
you figure it out, before warrenty runs out

I have my elite for a lot of time and with me the rubber grips went off with 1 year of use, last month was a broken bumper. I had to replace the bumpers of my old controller.

My day One controller was problem free until a few months ago when I dropped it hard on one of the bumpers, my fault nothing to do with the controller. Replacement new controller was a sturdier build and was working perfectly. Had to replace console
so got an Elite model with the Elite controller and I can confirm it is Elite.
