He can't add vbucks directly, but, you can add money to his account.

Although I have linked his account to mine on the fortnite website, his skins and other purchases (about £30 worth) have not transferred, how can I achieve this?

My son has historically used my xbox account to sign into games and link with friends. However, I've recently separated from my sons mum and its proving problematic for son to use / sign into my account to play games etc.

Is there any way of transferring his games, progress and conneections onto his own email/xbox account?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Games can not be transferred account to account

I have the same problem. My son is trying to play fortnite wirh his brothers and they play on PC. my older son said he probably didn't choose an account so it linked him to something he called a ghost account. Did you find a resolution?

It depends, because Epic Games doesn't allow you to play the same Fortnite account at the same time. It will remove the other Fortnite Game session from Gameplay. If you're trying to play Fortnite with your own account, you'd need to unlink the Xbox account from, in your current situation, your son, and then you'd need to make a new Xbox Account for your Son, and link the new Xbox Account to his Epic Games Account. You will, however not be able to see your son's Fortnite Game progress, since you've transferred it to a new Xbox account. I'd recommend you to follow up with Xbox Support and Epic Games.
