Yes, the refund is always processed to the original payment method. So, if you used the balance from your Microsoft account obtained through gift cards for the purchase, it will be refunded to the balance of your account. Just keep in mind that the time it takes for refunds to be reflected after approval is between 3 to 5 business days (considering that Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays are non-business days).

I bought Minecraft with a pre paid master card gift cad, but I accidentally bough the deluxe version that costed more. My plan was to request a refund and buy the regular version instead. I sent a refund request and it got approved. I got a email from Microsoft saying "Your Microsoft Store refund has been processed" and that the order has been refunded. The Payment section listed my gift card which was not reloadable. I checked the website that was listed on the gift card to check the card balance and the money wasn't there.

Is my money gone? What should I do?

Nonreloadable only means you can't got to the store and reload it with more money.

Refunds will still work as normal though. Once Microsoft shows the refund as "approved" on their end it can then take usually between 3-5 business days before you would actually see the money back on the card. Refunds are never instant when a refund goes back to a credit/debit card.

Prepaid cards could take longer potentially though so something to bear in mind.

On this is does not say anywhere “refunded” it says gift redeemed? But in my refund requests tab. They say approved. Is this something i should worry about?

So basically I bought something on the xbox Microsoft store for 10.79£ for GTA 5 but I didnt know it was for xbox series x or s because i have the ordinary xbox one so I requested a refund and I checked today and it said it was approved I got this code at the bottom it said service request approved and some numbers that I dont remember at the moment but I'll check I just don't know what to do with with the code

If it was added to your account you may need to request a refund by signing in to https://xbox.com/refunds and once the refund team responds and if they have approved the request you can then re-purchase it but this time choose "buy as a gift".
