Thanks for coming to the forums. Unfortunately, you would need to be at the console to sign in. Only reason you are needing to sign in is due to you have two Xbox consoles that the kids play on. One will need your account signed in for the kids to play on
their account as the gold wont transfer for both consoles. Being you have 4 kids, you could purchase another Xbox live subscription for the kid account that is on the most and set the console that isn't your home console to that one. So the set up would be
for example.

The new Xbox is your home console--all can play on this due to you have Xbox live and you don't need to be signed in.

The old console doesn't have home set to it so they need your account signed in to play.

You purchase gold for oldest child and set old console as the oldest childs home. Now all can play on either console due to they both have gold. You would not need to sign in any longer on the old console.

I have two children. I created separate accounts for them, so we have my account, an account for child A and another child B (might not be their real names). I have two consoles as well. I have one console set to the Home console so that either kid that
signs into that console can play any game I own, and play online if need be. The second console, if they want to play on that one, I sign in as me, then staying signed in with my account, sign into kid A or B account, and they can also play any game I own
and online if need be. That has worked out for us, with neither of them needing an Xbox Live Gold subscription, and I only purchase the games for their accounts that they play the most, such as Sea of Thieves and Minecraft. If you have a similar situation,
that should work out as well.

If they are trying cloud games thar won't work as ita a subscriber perk only

There is nothing you can do until you come back, and log in on their Xbox, and make it the Home Xbox. More info on that here https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox Once you have done that, they can then play your games on their Xbox without you having to log in on it.

Set console 1 as HOME console.....anyone can play on this console (wife and Kids) without you being signed in (gold Account)

Console 2... If you are signed in (Gold account) on this xbox your wife and kids can also play sharing your Gold features and games.

This is what I do when my two boys want to play each other on separate xbox's and the same game...

Console 1 (home Xbox) kid #1 signs in

Console 2 , I sign in (GOLD account), kid #2 signs in

they play together
