Well, am i able to change my gamertag to . They have been inavtive for 8 years + and you said that after 5 years they become available or something along those lines. How could i change my gamertag to this.

I don't think you understood what I said. I paid $10 on my xbox 360 console after it said the name was available, it took my $10, then gave me an error saying "Couldn't update" and my gamertag wasn't changed, and i'm out $10.

You have no way of knowing if the tag has been inactive for 8+ years.

Like i said,gamertags are not just used on xbox live so just because a gamertag has no activity on xbox live does not mean it isn't being used somewhere else in the system.

The 5 year rule started at the end of August 2016 so it hasn't quite been 5 years yet.

Changing gamertag is something that on face value isn't very "involved" but it does require resources on the server's end to accomplish. Any time you use resources they have to be paid for, Microsoft while an undeniably large company wouldn't be able
to creatively hide the costs involved as ultimately many would change their gamertag more than they change their socks!

Keep in mind the free gamertag change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. If you have a tag of your own choosing, then you've already used your change
and would need to pay to change it.
