I need to update my xbox one wireless dongle using windows 7

Hello, I saw that in 2015 microsoft released a driver that allowed for the wireless dongle to work with windows 7. I recently purchased the latest Xbox one with wireless dongle for windows 10 to use with a linux machine that supports it, but I want to make sure the dongle has the latest firmware.

I cannot find the firmware update on their site.

I do not own an Xbox one or a Windows 10 PC in order to connect the dongle to update it.

I need help! I am using windows 7 64bit

Edit: I followed the instructions to update the driver through device manager, this doesn't work, it cannot seem to find the update automatically.

The driver is built into windows you don’t need to worry about it. I don’t know what to tell you at Linux I assume someone is written one

It's kinda hard to update my controller,

seeing as I'm using Windows 7, not Windows 10,

and I've not any plans to upgrade to Windows 10 any time soon.

I'm not using Bluetooth built into my computer,

I'm using the dongle; Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows (HK9-00003)

Hi,

That wireless gaming receiver only works with 360 controllers, not Xbox One controllers. The Xbox one controller uses a different wireless protocol.

If you have Bluetooth for your PC you can pair the controller and use wireless this way. If you don't, you can buy any BT 4.0 USB dongle and connect using that. The dongles cost no more that $8.

Or you can buy the official Xbox One wireless receiver for Xbox One controllers.

Ahh, that explains it, thank you very much. Unfortunately I don't have Bluetooth inbuilt in my PC, but I can definitely buy a dongle. Does it need to be specifically a BT 4.0 dongle?

I believe the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel should work on the PC if you have the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver. That dongle enables you to use Xbox 360 controllers wirelessly on the PC. I'd imagine it's the same technology in the Racing Wheel. It worked on
Windows 7, so hopefully it should work with Windows 10.

I recently bought an Xbox One wireless controller specifically for PC use and I ran into a similar problem. I thought the controller would connect, but it doesn't unless I have this USB dongle attached to my computer. It's a little wireless receiver or
something and that is the only way I can get my controller to connect and respond appropriately. I did have to go into the Accessories app and update the controller, but even still I didn't realize that some controllers need this dongle and others don't, even
though both are marketed as wireless.
