Just know that while you can change your birthdate in your Microsoft account settings, Xbox will always see the birthdate that you first entered when you created the account. As far as Xbox is concerned, that date can never be changed.

I realized what counts as a "child account", and its anything under 13. For some reason, if you are above 13 and are in a family, it makes things a lot more complicated. So I left my family group, then when to settings and was able to change it.

Whether an account is considered an adult or not is based on a couple things.

1. Date of birth that was set on account when account was originally setup. This can not be changed even if it is changed on the website it will not change and would not be made an adult till it hits its 18th birthday.

2. If the date of birth has reached its 18th birthday when the account was originally setup if you are under another accounts family as a child. If your date of birth is above 18 and you are a child under a family you would need to sign into any adult account
in that family at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child account from the family and that would put your account into its own family as an adult.

Keep this in mind if the date of birth has not reached its 18th birthday for its date of birth when the account was originally setup and you remove it from the family your account will be blocked from being able to do ANYTHING till its added to an adults
family whether its the original one it was taken off of or a new one.

Just because you changed the date of birth on the account does not mean it changed when an account is originally setup and the date of birth is put onto an account that is the date of birth that will always be on the account.

Now if that date of birth has reached its 18th birthday and you are still getting that message that means your account is still under a family as a child account.

If this is the case you would need to sign into a parent account for the family at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child from the family and this will put the child account into its own family as an adult.

Now if you do this last step and the date of birth on the account when it was originally setup has not reached its 18th birthday then it will be considered an orphaned account and would NOT be able to do ANYTHING until put into a family as a child account.
