Why not? What happens when you try? If its because it says you changed your home console too many times then you will have to wait.

You can change you home console up to 5 times per year so if its because you have used all of your home console changes then you will have to wait 1 year from the time you used your first home console change before being able to change it again.

The only exception to this policy would be if you had just gotten a new console and that was the reason you needed the home console change.

If you are getting a different error then you will need to provide more details so we can assist futher. If the above is your problem then you will have to just wait it out unless your situation fell under the exception previously mentioned.

Once the account it's created you can change the birthday on the Microsoft account but it will not change the age on the Xbox account, that will remain as a child account until the years pass to become an adult account

Child's account cant view their privacy settings an adult is required to add him to a Microsoft family here

After the adult account creates the family and adds the minor's account to his family In order for you to be able to play multiplayer, you must change the privacy settings of your account. It can be done here

When you do it online and go to the change gamertag section, do you type over what is in there already or hit change first?

You can change the randomly generated tag on xbox.com, but you have to hit change gamertag and then it'll take you to an actual field you can type in.

If you are trying and it won't let you change it, I'd suggest notifying support so they can make a note on your account and if you by pass the time frame, they may be able to escalate for a forced name change. Depends on the agent, I suppose.
