I need some help

I have an Xbox One that was a year old in June. I have two controllers. This past weekend, I started having trouble with it. Not sure if it is the console, controllers, or both. First, my controllers keep disconnecting. That seems to be the biggest
issue. I have done a hard reset, and also tried unplugging the power cord. I also have an external hard drive. Also, as of this past weekend, I keep getting a box that comes up and says Xbx1 external hard drive is ready. It randomly flashes this while
I am trying to play a game. My controllers disconnect during game play. Tried new batteries. Doesn't help. Sometimes, during game play, I get dumped out of the game back to my home screen.

Can anyone help me with this and give me some idea of what is going on? Do I need new controllers (they are only a little over a year old as well)? Or does my Xbox need to be serviced? I normally play on my 360, so my One has been used very little.

Any help will be much appreciated, as I have no clue how to fix it.

This is probably a silly question, but I'm not very good with these things.

My son and I share a 360, but we both have our own X1. I'm planning on getting a new 360 for my new man cave. Is there a way to get my game saves off the hard drive and on to a flash drive so I can take my game saves with me? I'm primarily worried about my Skyrim characters.

Check if the controllers need an update. that may be the issue with the controllers.

The External drive may be something else. Try a different USB port on the console. If it continues it may be the drive itself I would expect.

 

For the controllers, check that the latest firmware is installed on them and also try some fresh/different batteries. Also, is there anything else nearby that could be causing interference?

For the hard drive, try another USB cable and also try a different port on the console. I actually had the same issue with a Seagate drive earlier in the year and it turned out to be the drive itself. Externals often have decent warranties on them though,
so you might be able to get it replaced if it's not the cable or port. My drive had a 3 year warranty and I managed to get it replaced, no problem.

It's also worth trying a factory reset of the console if none of the above helps. Choose the option to keep your games/apps and it's pretty painless. You'll have to run through the initial setup again, but overall it only takes a few minutes.
