Press the Windows Key+X > Settings > System > System Components > Search for Game Bar > click the three dots ... > Advanced > Restore

Then, on the same page, press Repair.

After that, please, download the Gaming Services Repair tool:

Once downloaded, execute the file by right-clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator.

Follow the prompts and check if the issue was resolved.

I have been having this issue as well. I have tried all fixes including adding the registry key to make "allow apps to run in background" visible so i could enable that on Gamebar and Xbox app.

Nothing has worked.
This issue began after the Gamebar and Xbox app updated in the late November early December timeframe.

The issue is with the apps them selves and not our settings. With 20+ years as a Windows system administrator I know it's not on my end.

The only way I can talk to my friends is when the party chat is pin. When the party chat is unpin I can hear my friend but they don't hear me. When I tried to allow xbox gamebar background permissions I don't have the option.

Please update windows and apps by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any available updates.

To update Xbox App and gaming services. Open the Microsoft Store, go to your Library, and check for updates for both the Xbox app and Gaming Services.

And then repair the Xbox Game Bar app. To do this, open Settings press Windows key + I. Go to Apps & Features: Navigate to Apps > Apps & features.

Find Xbox Game Bar: Scroll down and locate Xbox Game Bar.

Click on it and choose Advanced options. Click Repair.

Restart your computer after completing the repair.

Next is to check background apps and permissions by closing unnecessary background apps. To do this, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), and check for background running applications that might be interfering.

If the issue persist after performing the troubleshooting steps, kindly run the Game Bar as an administrator to see if that resolves the issue.

If you have already disabled Gamebar's access to your microphone and it is still accessing your microphone, you can try resetting the Gamebar app. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type "ms-settings:gaming-gamebar" and press Enter.

3. Scroll down to the "Reset" section and click on the "Reset" button.

If the issue still persists, we can stop the Gamebar from recording the background audio. You can go to Settings > Gaming > Game DVR and turn off the toggle switch under Record in the background.
