I need help with storage expansion cards.

I apologize but that's just the way it is. According to Xbox support: " To play games that are optimised for Xbox Series X|S, they need to be installed on the console’s internal SSD or Storage Expansion Card."

Another option is purchasing a Storage Expansion Card, Tristan.

Your Xbox console will detect your storage. However, it can only be used for file storage. This means that you cannot install and play Xbox games directly from an external USB storage device.

I was having the overheating issue from playing in the Rec. As soon as there is a dead ball, the xbox would shut off. I have the seagate Storage Expansion Card for xbox series x. I just moved the game to the Storage Expansion Card. It has been working fine for me since.

I understand. But in order for you to play the games, they need to be on the internal storage. While you can store these games on external drives, you will need to transfer them to the internal drive or expansion card in order to play them.

The faster storage requirement is a design choice to ensure optimal performance for newer games, and while you can use external storage for them, you will need to transfer them to the internal hard drive or expansion card before you can play them.

The cards come pre formatted so no need to format them, the only time you need to format is if you want delete everything and start again or you sell the card.
