You need to "Recover an Account" on the Xbox. First you need to sign out of your account then recover your son's account to that Xbox in the Sign In area. You will need the WLID (email and password) info to do this.

Looks like you can add a new email address, set it as primary, then remove the old one, although I've not tried it myself yet.

Also the XBox Live app for Windows 10 gives decent control over your account.
