I need a way to mute the xbox app

You can mute players through the xbox dashboard. A pain in the butt to do it that way, but i don't think DIce has ever had an in-game way to mute people.

Regarding the ability to mute people while in party chat, the options for that, IMO, seem to be stuck somewhere in the middle. On the Xbox 360, you have the ability to mute someone and it works both ways. However, on the Xbox One, you have the ability to
mute yourself so you can still hear everyone else or you can mute everyone else so you can't hear them. On the Xbox One in both cases, unfortunately it is only one way. Although both options are useful for their own reasons, there is still no option to mute
a particular individual through the party chat menu itself - to do so, you have to bring up their profile and select mute in chat. IMO, they need to either A) make it simpler and only allow us to mute individuals just like on the 360 (e.g. it mutes both ways)
or B) add the additional option of being able to do the same in the party menu itself.

So, I would prefer having:

Opt. A) Mute (insert GT here) ONLY.

OR

Opt. B) Mute (insert GT here) AND Mute Me AND Mute Party.

Option A just keeps things simple while Option B gives you more options of how you can handle a particular situation.

To simplify things on this particular topic, of these 2 choices (A and B), which would you prefer and why?

I am in the same boat you are: Xbox One with an Epson 3020. The "mute" command is an AV mute that, from what I can tell, is a cute way to "mute" both the audio coming from the projector (if you use that) and the video projecting out of the 3020. I am in
search of a way for the Xbox One to "turn on" and "turn off" my projector when I issue the Xbox One the respective command. If anyone knows a way for this to work, please let us know! Thanks!

1. Are you aware of any changes happened on the computer prior to this issue?
   
2. What is the version of Windows installed on your computer? (To check, type: winver in start menu and hit enter.)
   

I can understand the situation must be difficult for you when things do not work as they should. This could be due to pending updates or change in the settings. However, let us follow these methods and check if that helps.

I would suggest you to follow the troubleshooting steps from the Microsoft article on
Fix problems with apps from Microsoft
Storeand
let us know the results. If this doesn’t fix the issue, go to Method 1 and 2.

Method 1: Check the Application Sound.

1. Tap on the Windows key on your keyboard.
2. Type: Volume Mixer.
3. Set the slider option for the Applications to
   high.
4. Now, close the window and check for the issue. (Refer: dig 1)
   

Method 2:

Step 1: Check for updates.


I would suggest you to check if you have installed all the updates on the computer. There are chances that few updates are pending.

Open the Settings page > Go to
Update and Security> Click on Check for Updates. Once the updates are installed, restart the pc and check for the issue.

Step 2: Run the audio troubleshooter.

Open the Settings page > Go to
Update and Security> Click on Troubleshoot > Tap on
Playing Audio in the right pane and Run the troubleshooter.
