I made a new account, and Microsoft chose a gamertag for me without asking. I tried changing it, but the old one still shows up in most places. This isn't really an issue I've seen on any service before, and it's bizarre that they even tried to choose my username for me without asking. They made it some stupid nonsense generic name with numbers on the end.

Is this normal? Should I just delete my account and start over again? I made the account via web browser, and not the console, and maybe that's why they thought it was remotely acceptable to pick my username for me, but nothing from Microsoft seems to be telling me why this is, or acknowledging this bizarre mess.

Because your current name isn't supported in older games

Ascii characters are only supported in newer games that support the new system

Older games including older current xbox one gen games support ansi

Yes and though I chose that 2nd name, the first name still shows up in games. That’s the problem

That's because your first name would be randomizrd

You choose your second name yourself

Emotion fuzzy animal plus random set of numbers for randomized name

Keep in mind your name is not randomized atm

Just redownload your profile

I made sure not to create a new xbox live profile, since I already have a gamertag. When I clicked on "games" on my laptop, and tried to sign in, it took me to a screen that prompted me to create a new xbox live profile under my new Microsoft account. I
made sure to back out, and that is what prompted this whole process.

I am pretty sure there is not a new gamertag associated with my new account. I don't want there to be; I want to switch my current gamertag to my new Microsoft account.
