I just purchased the Mass Effect trilogy...I have no idea what I'm getting myself into

Seriously...I have no idea what this game is about.... A few years back I was at a friends house and popped this in while he took a GF phone call. literally took about 20 steps and thought the controls were clunky and banished it from my gaming career.
After years of hearing how this is the best series/game I finally decided its time to give it a real shot. I feel like I am in for a great surprise....not to mention I got all 3 games with DLC brand new for $39.99. Is this going to be like finding a $100 bill
in an old pair of jeans? So what should I be expecting? What is this game about? (With out spoilers please!!!)

ehh.....I'm just playing the Mass Effect trilogy again....getting that "perfect" playthrough

 

What are you guys playing?

playing the hard drive management game, deleting nearly 50 gigs so i can download the mass effect trilogy...so, in a few days i guess i'll be diving head first back into the mass effect franchise. in the meantime, i'm going to force myself to finish a bunch
of games so i can clear more room for whatever huge unnecessary digital purchase i might make next.

 

I did the same on the first game, dropped it for a few years so glad I went back though. I think you should go into this with no expectations on what the story holds so I'm not going to give you any hint in that regard just play the game and see!

 

I didn't enjoy the first Mass Effect. Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Mass Effect 3 is good, but I didn't like the ending.

 

I waited a very long time to play the mass effect series and when i did i hated it.

I kept going back to the first game over the course of a few weeks, and its ended up being my favourite game series ever.

I am still waiting for a price reduction on all the DLC before i will buy it though.

 

Mass Effect is a great series! Mass effect 2 was the best one I think, don't rush the game because your action can or will effect the ending of the game.

 

I bought every Mass Effect day 1. I didn't know anything about the story when I first started. It's better to go in not knowing what to expect. You might be surprised by what you find. But by the end of the first game, you'll know where the rest of the series
is headed. Still a great ride, though. Until the ending at least.

How long are the campaigns for a first timer who works at an average pace?

 

On your first run,talking to everyone and exploring everywhere,you could spend weeks on each game.

You will find yourself doing several playthroughs on each game too.

 

The first game is amazing. Then after that, gameplay and writing problems rear their ugly and destroy the greatness of what could have been.

I bought the trilogy pack when it first came out too not really knowing much about it and it turned out to be my favorite single player series this generation.

ME1 is kind of clunky and dated but has a great story, ME2 and 3 were my favorites. Such good games and lots of replayability.

 

Here's what it's about:

Space travel

companions

backstories

awkward romances

quests

decent FPS action

You'll love it. I just wanted to leave my reality and become Commander Shepard.

 

I played through them all about a year ago, then went and traded all of the games to get the trilogy pack because I wanted it. I really liked all of them, though the ending for 3 still was very suckish considering I spent so much time on all the games.

 

You shouldn't go into the first game expecting a shooter.

The combat in the first is my favourite of the series and I expect it is for the same reason that most don't seem to like it. The dice-roll.

Bioware took the dice-roll combat from previous titles and hid it behind a shooter cover. Kind of like how they hid the dice-roll of Dragon Age II behind a faux hack and slash.
