A couple days ago I brought Dead rising 3, which counts towards part one of the challenge and within that I have unlocked five achievements which count towards part two which should reward me with 1000 credits, however no achievements have been tracked...

Yes, you can choose to rent or buy video for that offer. We only look at the total spend amount for videos, so your ownership will not affect that calculation!
