Gold gives you access to play online multiplayer.

Game Pass is like Netflix for gaming and gives you access to a library of games to play.

Game Pass Ultimate is a combination of both.

So if you only have Gold, then you wouldn't be able to access those games unless you subscribe to Game Pass or buy the games.

When I try to access to online features, it tells me that I no longer have a Xbox Live Gold suscription. But I still have the suscription until january 2020. And when I go to check my suscriptions, it tells me that I have Xbox live gold until january 2020.
But it still tells me I don't have it when I try to go online, with every games and tells me to extend my suscription.

Is there anything to do or should I just wait until it is fixed ?

It is happening with me too. And it is late to talk with microsoft just tomorrow. Please somebody help us. the Live Gold Service is not cheap enouth to fail like this way mainly for who live in Brazil. I hope you can understand my english. Waiting for solution

There is currently a service outage with XBOX Live.

Before calling service you may want to try to reset the system cache of not done yet.

To do this please hold the powerbutton for about 15 seconds and keep it holding even when the one turns off after some seconds. Wait for the power supply to change the color to orange and then restart the console.

As everything is fine on your brother's console it looks more like a console then a profile problem to me. So if cache resetting the system cache does not fix it, it may also be an option to reset your console to factory settings.
