If LFG works on the new account, there may be a restriction or issue with your original account preventing it from working. Being disconnected from Live sounds like a Xbox or your home network, are you hardlined or running wireless and what does running a network through the xBox tell you.

Have you linked your Rockstar social club account with your x box gamertag?

Probably your NAT type is 'strict' and needs to be opened. I had the same issue a month or so back where I couldn't connect until I found out my NAT was strict.
