I have seen that the time and guide options have moved I don't like this new location but...

are you using the adapter your friend gave you everytime or are you trying it without it? If the adapter is like mine the microphone options are kept in the adapter and wont show up in the mixer options through the xbox guide. With the s style of controller
you don't have to have an adapter since the controller itself has a 3.5mm jack built into the controller. Any 3.5mm stereo headset with a built in microphone will work with the new style of controllers without adapter. When you use it without an adapter your
mixer controls are moved to the xbox guide like your friend was stating. Other than that if you have something wrong in your sound settings this could also make you headset not work. I have seen you have been through the privacy settings but what do your sound
settings say?

Having just found my 311th primary location and according to the guide I still have a few more to find, how can anyone say it is small. Then I will move on to the secondary locations.

If your console is humming and you have the S console it may be the vent cover for the Hard Drive. I removed my cover and no longer get the hum.

First off, you shouldn't spray compressed air into the console's vents. If there is dust inside it only moves it around. Also, compressed air is liquid based and when sprayed too close to the motherboard could short it out.

Now, try the steps listed at the link below to help your console vent properly. If they don't work or are not the issue then you will need to request a repair on the console.
