I have my Xbox set to 1080p and 120hz but if I enable the allow 4K setting, will it go back...

It's either a 4K panel or a 1080p panel and it's either 60Hz or 120Hz, but you're correct that it seems to contradict itself. I wonder if it could be a television setting? I know on my TV, I have to enable the external input setting to enable 4K120. I
presume you're using the HDMI that cable came w/ your Xbox?

This thread is about 1440/1080p 120hz TVs not being properly supported. There is a workaround to allow 4k - either turn of HDR or uncheck the tickbox "allow 4k" and make sure your settings are set to 1440/1080p 120 before starting a game.

It'd be good if Microsoft could look at this again as it clearly affects anyone without a new TV that supports 120hz at resolutions under 4k.

Also am I meant to be turning off instant game response (VRR) and setting the Xbox to run at 60 Hz for Apps/Bluray as well?

Could I just leave the Xbox settings as 4K UHD/120hz with VRR (Instant Game Response) enabled on the CX for everything?

No idea really about any of this stuff! I'm just a console gamer trying to get by! If I wanted to fiddle about with settings every time I did anything I would have got a pc!

It depends on what resolution your going to play at and the resolution of the tv,

if 4K, you need HDMI 2.1 to get 4K at 120hz refresh rate,

HDMI 2.0 will only allow 4K at 60hz.

if your at 1080p/1440p, HDMI 2.0 will be ok for 120hz refresh rate, however if it is 1080p/1440p i would recommend getting the Xbox Series S as that is aimed at 1080p/1440p.
