I have joined the insider program, and did all the updates. And Remote play was unlocked...

I think I joined the Xbox Insider program. But my console didn't join the insider update, is that relevant?

Already did that. Even bought a new console, did't join the Insider Program and DNS Server is 8.8.8.8

Prey and Everspace (tested on Xbox and PC) don't unlock ANY Chivo, Portal Knights and Tokyo 42 work fine.

In my case the issue wAs resolved by updating to latest windows update 1906 and i also joined the insider program this solved all my issues. Indider was optional.

If you are looking to test new versions of the Xbox One dashboard on your console then you should join the Xbox Insider program and this will allow you help with testing the new console software updates.

To join the insider program download the Xbox Insider Hub app on your console and enrol your console through the app, Once you have joined the program when your XP level and tenure are high enough you will be able to join the beta tier of the program.

Your son is playing on the official release channel for Minecraft. His 1.12 version is currently the latest official version, whereas his friends have joined the Insider Program and are playing a beta test version of Minecraft.

His friends can either un-enroll from the Beta Insider Program, or you son can try to join the Insider Program and update his Minecraft to a beta version.

Be aware however, that beta version still contain untested parts, and the game can crash, malfunction and in turn destroy worlds if an error occurs.

If your son is still willing to test the Beta, he can download the free Insider app from the store, and join the Minecraft Beta.

Then he'll have to download/update his Minecraft to the newer beta version.
