Unfortunately, it isn't possible. You would need to purchase the game depending on the Store platform you're into.

You would have to purchase the phone version.

just to be sure are you using the 'correct' version of Minecraft on the Switch, since there seem to be two versions. the 'older' Minecraft for Switch version and the 'new' Minecraft. Owners of the older version should be able to download the newer version
for free.

I just bought Minecraft as a gift through the Xbox store for my child and my child redeemed it on their account. Unfortunately I just realized that the version I bought was the Xbox version. My child has a Mac so they cannot even play it.



I submitted a refund request but I am worried that because it's a redeemed gift purchase the refund will get denied. Do I have any options, i.e. paying the difference on my kid's account to switch to the PC/Java version, or getting the redeemed gift reversed so I can buy the correct option?

Yes it will almost guaranteed get denied due to it being redeemed.

There is no way to reverese it being redeemed and there is unfortunately no way to simply pay the difference to switch to a different version

I would so get the PC version if my computer wasn't busted. But that is good to hear first thing I do when I get my computer fixed will be to buy Minecraft.
