I just bought external storage for my Xbox as it is running out of storage, and it won’t let me transfer games? I know it is usb 3.0, but I don’t really know what to do, as it thinks it is for music no tv shows and stuff. It is 1tb and it says it works on xbox but I’m pretty clueless on what to do. I try and save things to it and it says I need to have a faster hard drive or something.

    :)

I have an Xbox series s and the external ssd won’t work?

    Hi there,

it could be a couple of things causing a storage device to be recognized in a certain way. See this support page for some details about exteral storage devices:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/storage/console-doesnt-detect-external-storage

Also be sure that the storage device (and the usb cable used) do meet the requirements to use the storage to save games on it.
Also keep in mind that some games need to be on the internal storage device or the specific expansion storage devices to play them.

Depends. If they are physical versions then yes as the Series S has no disc drive. If they are digital versions then no.

A small few companies may charge for the X/S upgrade but the majority are free & any X/S version must be on the internal SSD to work or the external SSD card if you have one.

Xbox series X|S alternative high speed storage expansion

    Hi,

No, sorry it won't work. The USB ports on the Series X|S are USB 3.1 which have a maximum speed of 500MB/s. This means, no matter what drive you buy, no matter what speed it's rated at, you're stuck at the max speed of the USB port.

The only drives that can be used for Series X|S games are either the internal or the storage expansion card.

I have the Expansion card for my Series X. I also have an external 2TB USB SSD in an enclosure. I can only use the external SSD for Xbox One games. They do load a lot faster than a mechanical hard drive, but I can't play my Series X games off it.

xbox series x seagate from xbox one not showing any games when plugged into the series x

    Hi,

Do you still have your Xbox One and does your external hard drive still work on that console?

I have successfully connected both my Seagate 'Game Drive' and my external SSD USB 3.0 drives to my Series S without any problems. All my installed games show up fine.

The Series X/S supports the same external drives as the Xbox One/S/X support. If your drive isn't being detected it's probably become corrupted or has a hardware issue.
