1. Is the device not disabled on your settings
   
2. Check volume
   
3. Check if there is no Micrsoft drivers' issue.
   
4. Outdated or missing Steel/Series engine
   
5. Have you tried it to another device and see if the same issue?
   

Though Steel Series are the most preferred choice for expert gamers to get high-quality audio experience when gaming. Also due to its convenient, it came up with a detachable microphone. Sometimes, the microphone may not work and puts a damper on your gaming experience.

Yes its the steel series arctics 9x

Hello, perhaps you can adjust your audio settings and what happens when you're using the headset via the Steel Series Engine https://downloads.steelseriescdn.com/guides/Arctis_9X_PIG_11_MP_Web.pdf

Apparantly the Arctis 9x iisn't compatible with steel series engine

If you can use the headset on the Xbox One / S / X, it should be usable on the Series X,

Steel Series website on the Arctis 9X Headset states it will work on Xbox Series X, if its the Arctis 9X.

As far as I know, most if not all current hardware will be compatible with the Series X, even your games on your external hard drive can just be plugged in and enjoyed.

This makes it easy for me as I have a 4TB external myself and its almost full.

I wouldn't run the game direct from the 4TB hard drive as you wont get the fast loading or fast travel times that the Custom NVMe SSD offers, best to transfer you most regular played games on to the Xbox Series X SSD.
