    Gold can only be purchased via credit card/Paypal or by purchasing a prepaid gold card in a store. It is not possible to use the currency from your Microsoft account balance on subscriptions.

    please try and hard reset your console by holding the power button on your console for 10 seconds and try again if that doesn't work please get in contact with someone at xbox customer support.

    It is because you cannot use currency in your account to pay for a subscription. The only ways you have ever been able to purchase Xbox Live Gold is with credit/debit card, Paypal or with a prepaid Gold subscription card. There has never been a way to
    use currency or points to buy Gold.
